SHARING IBERIAN TALES

Coming in the fall of 2025

The first in a trilogy, INÊS explores why a love story became a tragedy. Eternal gratitude turns a blind eye to a jealous man's anger. Grief begets revenge.
 EXPLORE  PORTUGAL

The people of Portugal are friendly and engaging. Charming towns, festivals, amazing food and wine, and great places to stay including pousadas, manors and castles. Some highlights of my visits to towns in the novel are found in the Tidbits tab.

Histria Books and Catherine Mathis have entered into a 3-book publishing agreement for the The Queens of Portugal Trilogy!

Coming in the Fall of 2026:
Leonor

Is Leonor the "Lucrezia Borgia" of Portugal or a woman maligned to suit the narrative of the Avis dynasty?  Read her tale and make up your own mind about her role in Portugal's history.
Coming in the Fall of 2027:
Philippa

The final installment of the Queens of Portugal trilogy relates the life of Philippa of Lancaster, daughter of John of Gaunt. She will wed one of Portugal's great kings and raise successful children, including Prince Henry the Navigator whose historical role is now dimmed.

Photos on this page were taken by Catherine Mathis. Book covers were designed in Canva using some elements of AI for the floral borders. Book cover pictures: for INÊS it is a photo Catherine Mathis took at the grave of Pedro, Alcobaça, Portugal; for LEONOR the drawing was adapted by Mike Wayne of Emovendo from the engraving of St. Catherine of Alexandria by Israhel van Meckenem (c. 1465-1500) used by verbal permission; and for Philippa it is an image from the British Library (MS 12531) in the public domain. The mid-page border image was generated using Canva AI tools by Catherine Mathis (June 2024).
